About The HAGERMAN Legacy of Sophisticated Living
Locally owned and operated, The Hagerman underwent a total restoration completed in 2022. The owners reimagined the historic downtown building as an apartment complex that fit the modern lifestyle of Lexington residents today. Located in a coveted area downtown, residents can enjoy urban conveniences without sacrificing the comforts of a luxurious home in a quiet neighborhood setting.
Our HistoryThe Hagerman traces its roots Back to The American Victorian Era— a distinguished residence constructed at the turn of the 20th century.
The Hagerman building was designed by Herman L. Rowe, a revered architect of the time who was also behind Lexington landmarks like the iconic Carnegie Library and the eclectic Lexington Opera House. Originally known as Argyle Hall, The Hagerman was constructed to serve as the esteemed dormitory of Campbell-Hagerman College.
Founded in 1903 by Barton Campbell Hagerman, this distinguished all-women's institution was regarded as one of Kentucky's premier centers of scholarly pursuits. Situated upon sprawling farmland at the time, the campus centered around three expansive, state-of-the-art collegiate structures including this building that Rowe so carefully designed with his sophisticated, neoclassical touches.
